So I just watched management tell a trucker that he could not Park in the Walmart parking lot and that he had to move. So my question is if for one reason or another and you're on your 10 hour shutdown and you're required to move your truck to another spot or lot what do you do? Does the law give you any leeway if you have to move for a good reason?

short version, your screwed. The best thing to do in this sittuation is Call whomever is on duty for your company, Night DMs can help ya to a point. Just explain the issue and see what they say.. If they tell you to move, tell them to send you that over the Qualcomm or whatever onboard computer you use for messaging back and forth to your company. They may tell you to call the local PD station for an escort as you are out of hours..

The BEST thing to do is not park at walmart as majority of them are not allowing trucks to park anymore. I never stopped at a walmart except for deliveries and to grab a weeks worth of food, and I'd always go in and ask the manager if it was ok to park for a few to do some shopping. I prefer doing rest areas over anything else, quieter i think..

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Agreed, never park atWalmart or any place of business for that matter for anything other than a quick shopping trip unless you get approval from the management. Never assume it's ok even if there are other trucks or RV's parked.
