So lease purchase is the only way you would be able to bring the child along? I've only seen a few families living like this, and you can tell when they pile out, but I can't remember any that seemed happy about it lol

Jered I think you have received several concise and thoughtful answers. C.S. and Rick; totally agree with you both, really good answers and advice.

In my opinion forcing a young child into the lifestyle of an OTR trucker is definitely not looking out for their best interest or considering their quality of life. It's one thing for an adult to freely and knowingly choose this lifestyle but your son would not have the option of choice. He would be confined to a space slightly larger than a walk-in closet. Is that what you want for him?

Teaming is about keeping your truck moving for 23 hours out of a 24 hour day. You barely have time to eat and shower because when you finish your 11 hours of driving, you basically have about 11 hours before you are on duty again. Your job and responsibility at that point is to rest, not entertain your son for several hours.

As a truck driver your only priority is safe and efficient operation of your truck. Trying to raise a child at the same time will significantly compromise your ability to perform your job, especially when you are learning. You are totally underestimating how incredibly consuming and exhausting this job is. Just ask some of the newer drivers on the forum, they'll tell yah...

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

G-Town I was actually thinking about that, just didn't get it into my post.

Keep in mind your costs. Most tractors are getting 6.5 to 8 mpg. If you have one of those super rv type sleepers your going to need more power and lower gears to pull the weight of your tractor plus the freight. Either your mpg will go down terribly or you will only be running 55-60 and not pulling grades at speed. I may be wrong about this.

You also reduce your payload carrying capability due to the additional weight of the tractor & condo.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
