Hi all, my name is P.K. I am very interested in becoming one of the next great country cross cross drivers 👍👍😃😃🚛🚛❤️❤️ I signed up to ask a lot of questions and I hope you guys don't mind, I think I'll be asking and posting a lot. My first two questions are listed below: 1) What is the best trucking school out there? Is there like an Ivy League of trucking academies that give the best thing education that help you be first in line for jobs? I have never seen so many people and friends and neighbors loosing their jobs it's terrifying. 2) What is the usual starting salary for a newbie? Are you paid by the mile or by the hour?

I am new to this world and want to get myself set up with a school in the next month. I need a new career and I am a nomad at heart. I am anxious to get started.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
