Just wanted to post and thank everyone who took the time to write about their experiences. This information helped me make the decision to take the plunge into trucking. I've been researching the pros and cons for about a year now and lurking around this site for the past 5 or 6 months. Trucking has been a childhood dream of mine since my first Hess truck, but life led me down a different path. Now at 50, and retired from my first career I still had the desire to do it, but had major concerns about taking such a drastic step. This site cuts through all the b.s. and gives you incredible information and points you in the right direction to find more. It pushed me off the fence. Starting CDL school next Monday.

So a heartfelt thank you to all the newbies, pros, and site moderators who take time out of their days to keep people informed.

Looking forward to seeing you out there soon. Stay safe.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Welcome and thanks for your first post. I started when I was in my mid-50's, so have many others on this site. Where are you attending school? Good luck.
