What kind of head injury are you talking about? Did you have seizures connected to it? What kinds of meds were/are you taking?
Not trying to get too personal here, we just need a little more info to give any kind of advice.
Something you can consider doing is talking to a doctor who does DOT physicals. They would be able to answer questions concerning past injuries. But keep in mind, most companies will do their own physicals and may be more stringent on their disqualifying criteria. You would have to discuss your medical history with individual recruiters for companies you are interested in to find out wether the company would hire you.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

the med is called carbamazepine, and I had a TBI in 1992, none are documented but from my 1st ex wife told the doc I was having intermittent seizures of some sort and thats why I was put on the meds over 12 years ago. to my knowledge and from others around me none have happened in over 12 years. Those spells they are calling seizures happened only while drinking heavily which I've not done in quite an amount of years. the doc I saw today said he wouldn't consider what was happening a seizure but something else but its hard to remember what he called it. I'm not looking to go out here and get a cdl andwould never do anyone harm intentionally thats why I'm trying to do the right thing and get medically cleared before I do anything else. trying to be more safe than sorry for sure!!
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

I would suggest seeing a neurologist to get an updated diagnosis.
Any diagnosis of seizures can be a big deal when it comes to getting a CDL. it's a high risk condition that can significantly impair your ability to drive.
Your first ate should be to see a DOT approved doctor to discuss what can be done.
Good luck!

From all of the info on FMCSA's site and google searches I've found quite a few discussions on getting cdl and renewing a CDL even tho someone has had a TBI in the past. Some peeps are getting exemptions even while taking the meds even tho the meds are restricted. Does anyone have knowledge of this??

Well I talked with a lady from the FMCSA today and she told me to go ahead and go to the DOT doc that gives physicals and see what he says, tell him whats going on and he may require med records but its up to him if I drive interstate or intrastate. I was also told that I could drive interstate and still take the meds that are restricted but only with an exemption.

I'm a disabled vet that got medically retired from the military, I'm atm getting by the VA but this sitting at the house for more than 1o years has almost drove bat sh*t crazy. I've talked with the VA and they've told me to go to the KY DMv and talk with they're medical review board about getting my CDL. I also stopped taking some of the meds that they had me on because they're restricting me from getting my CDL. I had gotten in an accident while in the miltary but that was over 20 years ago since that happened. The doc I saw today told me there was a period that I had to be off the meds in question to see if I was ok to drive. So does anyone else have an opinion or problem similar to my predicament and if so lets talk and see what we can all come up with to get over this hump ladies and gents
