Just wondering anybody's thoughts on Home time (Regional vs. OTR minimums).

I was looking at regional positions at Schneider and OTR at Roehl. Roehl has an option of 3 days home after 11 days out. I read in a reply to a prior post that sometimes regional gigs can cut into the time EX: Get home Saturday and leave Monday AM. whereas OTR home time is a bit more structured and solid. In considering this as well as the obvious fact that you can make more money being out 11 days vs. 5.5. plus 5.5, I wonder if the better option for the quality of family time would be the 11-3 OTR at Roehl vs. what may be an abbreviated 1-2 day break at home via regional? Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated!

Thank you all and stay safe!!smile.gif

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I drive in a dedicated account at Swift. "Home weekends" is a 34 hour reset. But that's only a minimum. True, sometimes I get home Saturday afternoon, so I'm disappointed and my wife is PO'd.

Then if I grind the gears right, I get done with my week's work and get home Friday evening.

My get-home time is anything between those two extremes. But I always need to start rolling on Monday mornings by 5am.

OTR home time is a bit more liberal than my job. But I'm home every weekend and you're not!

SAP:

Substance Abuse Professional

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
