My understanding is that in order to obtain a CDL in the U.S. you must hold a valid operators (class d) for a minimum of 1 year. If not a u.s. citizen then he must have a work visa or permanent residency card. Of coirse that might not apply to your dad.. Just saying that because ihave a couple friends who have a cdl here but are not u.s. citizens.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
AZ has license reciprocity with three countries none of them are Mexico.
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Hello everyone!
I have researched and called so many DMV's already that I had to sign up for this page in search for help! My dad currently is looking for DMV's who are able to transfer his Mexican CDL to AZ or the US. We know for a fact that this could be done about 4 to 5 years ago, and the law changed so this is no longer possible here at our home town of Yuma AZ. We wanted to know of states or places in AZ where we could get the CDL transferred to a valid US (preferably AZ) CDL. He is not looking to drive trucks, he just wants this license in order to drive a bus at his current job, which offers better pay.
Any help would be appreciated guys! Thanks
