I think part of it is that truck stops are a safe haven - AFTER - you are parked. Before you get yourself into a spot, it's like Forrest Gump's 'box of chocolates.'

A lot of truck stops were clearly designed for 48 foot trailers, or simply poorly laid out. A lot of truck stops simply do not have enough room to properly pull forward and clear the fuel lane for the truck behind them without blocking other trucks. Quite a few truck stops have perpendicular parking spots with stupidly ridiculous clearance between rows. They should be herringbone parking, not perpendicular parking. Some lots have large sections that require blind side backing.

So, this, I think, leads to a lot of aggression while drivers are looking for parking. Especially in lots that appear nearly full or are poorly laid out.

Once the worried/aggressive driver is parked, they aren't nearly as stressed and treat other people much better.

As for the garbage/trash thing, some drivers are dirtbags. Mama never taught them how to keep their room clean. I've seen the inside of trucks that looked like landfills. Open the door in windy conditions, and an armful of garbage blows out. I'm no Mr. Clean, but I have a trash can and broom in my truck, and I'm not afraid to use them. Some of those drivers are nice people, so I wouldn't equate slovenly behavior with impolite behavior unless I know there's a connection, somehow.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

You're not whining, you're doing it the right way. All you can do is just stay positive, keep doing things the right way and hope it rubs off on others. As for people calling in reports it sure is usually complaints called in and rarely positive reviews. We used to say in the car business, "Under promise & over deliver" because happy customers may never say anything but just 1 unhappy customer will tell everybody.
