When I'm sitting empty waiting for the end of a 34, and don't have a load planned, I like to send creative freeform requests for loads.

Today, I wrote this:

**

34-hour Limerick

There once was a truck sitting empty.
The driver said 'planner please help me.'
I'm stuck in Cheyenne,
without a trip plan,
and I need some miles to make money.

**

I got a response two minutes later, asking me when I'll be available and promising to try to get me a load. My 34 ends in 2 hours. Hopefully I'll have a load by then.

Hahaha! Thanks for the good laugh! I'm going to have to try this on my dispatcher...

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I've also had good luck sending messages that are formatted like personal ads.

"Empty truck seeks meaningful short term relationship with shipper..."

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
