Ok earlier this week I posted that I was headed to orientation this coming Monday with MCT. Well the next day that all changed due toy tickets from almost 3 yrs ago. I understand why and don't have anything bad to say about them. So now I was told today that I am able to attend orientation in Nashville, TN next week for Western Express. I have heard many horror stories about this company and would like to know if the stories are true or just unhappy former employees bashing the company. I'd love to hear from current drivers with Western Express to see how they like to company overall. Hopefully my first experience driving for a official trucking company wi be a good one

Until Old School chimes in to tell you more, he started and worked happily there for a while, check out A Week In The Life Of A Flatbed Driver. It is a thread he started while working there.

Most companies are good if you have the right attitude.

Well just an update. I'm back at home from Western Express. Recruiter told me last week before I left for Nashville that he had everything taken care of and his message to me thru Tenstreet was "We're Golden"! But I guess my gold got stolen! Got to Nashville Monday night and did Day 1 orientation on Tuesday. Only bad part was during the physical, the Dr only gave me a 3 month medical card because I had a cold and he said my lungs didn't sound good. Mind you I just got a 2 yr card in April 2016. Day 2 on Wednesday went great. Thursday morning, Day 3, found out I was disqualified to be hired due to their scoring matrix! Recruiter did my scoring before I quit my job here at home and said it was only at 14 pts and as long as it didn't go over 18 then I would be hired. Well, Thursday after I am disqualified I go to see him and my score jumped from a 14 to 18! So it had to signed off by safety. Friday morning he tells me that it wasn't signed off so he could get me bus ticket back home.

I got home this morning and received an email from the GA DDS saying myedical Card on file is no longer valid. Thanks to Western Express. I'm also without a job and have $640 a month child support to pay.

I know I screwed up in the past on my MVR but how does a guy get a chance to redeem himself? I've had a Class B CDL for 20 yrs but haven't used it in the past 10 yrs. I got my Class A CDL on August 5th, 2016. Now in 2014, I had gotten 2 speeding tickets. One in February and the other in June. Both of them were 15 over the limit. I've had nothing since then. I slowed my butt down and straightened out. The ticket in June 2014 was while I was unemployed and told the judge I didn't have the money to pay the fine. So he suspended my license til it was paid. I paid it in February 2015 and had my license reinstated. As soon as it was reinstated, the State of GA gave me a 60 day Commercial Disqualification for obtaining 2 tickets in a year. Western knew all of this before I went up there but that is why they disqualified me and sent me home.

I've been wanting to drive trucks for many years and now that I have the ability to do so I'm struggling to get started.

What can I do?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.
