“CHECKLIST”

Checklists, written and mental, can be a great way to get things done properly and safely. A new driver can get a small notebook to keep in arms reach of the driver’s seat. Make various checklists for various activities like hooking, unhooking, backing info like reference points, etc. for example, you have just picked up a load and are ready to hit the road. You grab your notebook, and check the list to make sure you have raised your landing gear, visually inspected the king pin connection lock, done a tug test, sent in all the needed electronic messaging to the company, etc.

As time goes by, the written checklists will become mental checklists and muscle memory.
