Welcome to the forum Hamerman!

I'm sorry, but I don't know any drivers with cochlear implants, and I don't think we have any here in our forum. I can't really help you specifically with your inquiry but I'm gonna give you some links to some places here on our website where we have some information that might prove to be helpful.

Here is some information on the D.O.T. hearing test.

And here is some information on D.O.T. physical "driver exemptions."

I know we have had some discussions in the forum about exemptions before, so you might try using the search bar at the top of the page and just search the word "exemptions." They may not be specific to your question, but a couple of our members have had to get exemptions for various reasons and you may find some helpful information in those discussions. I know it is a fairly involved process, but it can and has been done before by some persistent drivers.

Best of luck to you guys, and please feel free to ask as many questions as you like, we are usually a little better able to answer most questions, but you hit us right off the bat with a tough one!

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Well, somehow I messed up on that second link.

Let's try this again... D.O.T. Driver Exemptions.

Thanks very much for the info, maybe (but I doubt it) I am the first to drive with cochlear implants. As a side note my wife and I love this web site and spend a good deal of time reading the other truckers blogs and forum and studying the cdl manual you guys are awsome. I was very disapointed when I first started researching the subject (glass door and such) until I stumbled upon this site and wow what a site it is thanks guys for all your hard work on this site. We haven't jumped in to the trucking world with both feet yet until I resolve the hearing question. I can hear very well with the implants but am stone dead if they are not on which is only when I sleep or in the shower. I am anxious to learn more and maybe meet some of you folks on the road thanks again
