I have a CDL B license with a Hazmat and i'm thinking about getting an a but i know that you can't have a hazmat endorsement on a cdl permit. Will i have to take the hazmat test again or will i still have it once i get a full a license?
Interesting question there.
Logic would dictate (though we are talking about GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY here) that you would not be able to operate an HM load under a Class-A PERMIT anyways. But since you have the endorsement already (which is more of a BG check and written test only) and the endorsement BG/Test is the SAME FOR ALL CDL CLASSES of license - it would simply go back onto your license when you test out and upgrade from permit to full Class A.
Most CDL-A Permits (or CDL Permits in general) are PAPER PERMITS that are carried along with your CURRENT CLASS OF LICENSE. So if you are currently a Class-B with HM - then you would still have your Class-B with HM, and the Class A Permit would be an additional piece of paper you carry along with your plastic Class-B.
