Hey people Im new to trucking. I'm not in school yet but I would like to know what can I expect in this industry? The pay, the whole experience.

Im located in phoenix arizona, and I'm currently working at a call center and to be honest. I wanna switch to a different career path. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Hi, Josh! So you're ready to get out of that cubicle, eh? Here's our "starter kit" where you can get a good idea of what a trucker's life is like:

I drive for Swift, one of the companies based in Phoenix.

Here's a bunch more information, since you'll need to go to truck driving school. (Tuition runs in the $4-5k range, but many companies either have their own school, or will cover your tuition.)

Paid CDL Training Programs

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
