OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Vet, there are three clocks that govern a drivers available drive time. The 8 day 70 hour clock is the one most affecting your ability to drive indefinitely. Eventually it's possible you'll need to take a break called a 34 hour reset due to a limited amount of available hours. The 34 resets the 8 day clock to a full 70 hours.

Legal requirements aside,... you really should break once in a while, get away from the truck for a day, recharge your mental batteries. Initially driving 11 hours per day for days on end is something that most of us had to get used to.

Take it one step at a time, read Becoming A Truck Driver: The Raw Truth About Truck Driving, it will help you understand this business a whole lot better.
