Hi Guys, I haven't written anything on here for a while now. I'm still out there running the miles......but still consider myself very much the rookie. Love reading all the posts and soaking up all the information I need to hear.

I now have a question......I'm looking at a plug in cooler/fridge for my truck that will sit next to me. The only problem I have been told is that if you keep it plugged in for more than four hours while the truck is not running it will kill the battery. Is this true and how do you guys keep your food fresh? My wife is cooking all sorts of good food but I want to be out for four to six weeks at a time. Thanks in advance guys ;-)

Still enjoying my time at Swift, getting the miles and although my DM does get on my nerves at times (just a little bit of a drama queen :-) I like her.

That's ok, women can be like that. They love drama shocked.png

Lets see how long it takes for Starcar to show up... rofl-2.gif

I understand your concerns about it possibility killing the battery. I like to cook my food instead of buy it at the truck stops. I often have soy milk in my cooler and I always have some eggs. I use the Koolatron cooler and I got it for 95$. It works very well. Yes, it won't stay on the whole night because the battery will eventually die out and shut it off. Once my voltage gets to 12 all the power in my truck shuts off automatically. So it doesn't stay on all night but the food doesn't go bad. First of all the cold air is trapped inside it, and it's in the front of the truck. And the front of the truck is always freezing cold at night so I wake up to everything still cold. Hasn't ever been a problem for me.

Now, if you take a 34 hour rest you can expect that the cooler won't be operating for a while. So in that case the food might go bad. So again I have never had a problem with my eggs. And eggs are just about the most temperature sensitive product you can have.

Overall, I highly recommend the Koolatron. I wouldn't trade it for any other cooler. The lid is on the top so it opens up from the top making it very easy to access while driving. The motor is also on the top so you don't have to worry about choking the cooler by putting it up against a wall.

No sir, I'm mentally and physically ready for the transition but I'm still under contract until beginning of January. I'm just trying to take it slow and not get in a rush.

I have an igloo cooler. I also have an apu and when my truck is off it charges my batteries so cooler is on 24/7.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.
