If i were being tailgated, do i pull over and stop? or Increase my following distance and don't make any lane changes? I am getting these two different answers from studying the states manual. I just wanted to clarify the answer...any thoughts?

What I was taught is that you increase your following distance, so you'll have even more time to react and further reduce the chance of a necessary hard brake. Just trying to protect the tailgating idiots lol.

One of the answers on the high road test was pull over and stop. I answered the question with what u just said and it told me I was wrong and that I was to pull over and stop. Thanks for clarifying

I confess I had trouble with the high road too. I used my state's CDL manual and that's how we were required to answer that question. I live in Kentucky, if that's any help.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Matthew, I think you need to go back and read that question again... slowly and carefully. Sometimes the question is worded trickily. Try that again and see if you can make some sense of it.

Ok, i will do both suggestions. As far as the state, i have to focus on missouri since i plan on going with wil-trans. I found that my state being south carolina, there permits don't transfer over. And some of there rules vary. I appreciate all the info !!!

Wil-Trans:

Darrel Wilson bought his first tractor in 1980 at age 20, but, being too young to meet OTR age requirements, he leased the truck out and hired a driver.

Through growth and acquisition, Wil-Trans now employs over 200 drivers, and has a long-standing partnership with Prime, Inc. to haul their refrigerated freight. The family of businesses also includes Jim Palmer Trucking and O & S Trucking.
