So the last time I posted anything I was way ahead of schedule. I am still active duty but currently in CDL school. We just finished backing today and hit the road tomorrow. I don't know about everybody else but to this point school has been fun. Backing is a challenge but I've got the hang of it for the most part. Already having my CDL with the military waiver is a huge stress reducer. I applied to a few flat bed companies and will be going to orientation with Melton in mid November. I just want to reiterate that this website and forum have been a huge help in my journey so far. Patrick C helped me go with Miller Motte Technical College here in Clarksville, TN and I'd say they are top notch. Unfortunately we are the last class due them losing their accreditation. Anyway, I'll most likely be lurking as usual until the next update! Thanks yall!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
