Hi and welcome!
Check out the links below to help you understand the rules.
The High Road training program will show you graphs similar to the way you fill out the paper logs..
Most companies are on elogs now so using paper is occasional when software or hardware goes bad.
good luck
High Road CDL Training Program
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A written or electronic record of a driver's duty status which must be maintained at all times. The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.
Electronic Logbook
A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.
Electronic Logbook
A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.
Unlike elogs , paper logs are done in 15 minute increments.. it helps to use a ruler to keep things neatet. Simply flag each activity, such as pretrip/pti and the name of location where you are with straight lines between various on duty activities showing whether you are driving, in the sleeper, on duty not driving etc. Of course you'll add your name, any codriver, Company name, date, etc. If on paper, NEVER sign the log until you end that day. Update it at every stop. It's really not complicated. Like elogs, just log everything as you do it.

Good Morning Ladys, I have a question for someone out there that maybe able to answer me. I am going into my second week of truck diving school, although I am very excited to complete the class and be able to move on into the world of trucking I am a bit confused about how to fill out a paper log. We did go over it in class but I am still unsure of my self in filling them out. Any place I am able to go and see samples of these log books? Thank You
