Ya know what I think really put a hurtin' on innovation? Google Glass. Not the product - the product as a prototype was amazing! I have one of the originals. What hurt is everyone's reaction to it. People thought they wanted Star Trek type technology but when it came out they all freaked out and ran the other way!
I think tech companies watched that play out and decided to keep all of their Star Trek technology on the back burner for another time. 99% of the time it's far safer and more profitable to keep changing things incrementally than it is to release something that's totally game-changing or revolutionary.

"Early Windows OS" Shudders ..
Ya, people say we have advanced so much and I wanna ask how? Yes we have smart phones that are smaller and faster than the first computers, but If you look at the the progression of things like you said Brett it hasn't really been big leaps.
Computers have changed, but nothing life changing. I can play my games and watch my movies in higher resolutions, that is about it. They tried making hover boards and they blew up. Phones are just being revamped and added to, I should have a 3 D holographic phone that is projected from my finger tips or a earpiece that is a fully functional computer with a HUD. Those would be cool!
Operating systems are just more bloated versions of the previous one and my Smart TV just means everything I watch is being monitored for advertising schemes.
I maybe kinda synical for a 34 year old and that I hate technology, but this is the farthest from the truth. I just think we have stagnated and gotten complacent with ourselves. Heck we haven't been past the moon in a manned craft yet!
