I shower every day, but I have a condition that causes my body to smell like garbage frequently. Controlling my diet helps, but the smell still comes back strong sometimes. It has caused me a lot of problems with my jobs and from what I've read, many truckers smell bad so it might not be a big deal.

So, there's that. Then there's the fact that I absolutely LOVE taking long road trips and don't really even mind regular commuting at all. Most people seem to hate driving in traffic, but it doesn't bother me. I also am a loner and have been all of my life.

What are the worst and best parts of trucking? I realize it isn't a vacation by any means and is a very tough job, but it seems like it would be enjoyable.

So what are the best and worst parts of the job?

Trucking is very much what one makes of it. Depending on the company that you start with, there will be a period of time where you are on your trainer's truck. Here is our starter package. It is highly advisable that you read through all of it. This is not something to jump into.

We highly recommend Paid CDL Training Programs as the best way to get started in trucking. I was trained by and drive for CFI. I have been out here with them for just over a year now and I'm very happy with the training I got from them and the company. Good luck.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

In a few more weeks I'm headed back to Mexico for another week. This time scuba diving with whale sharks, last time it was cave diving in freshwater caves.

Sorry... it is the trucking truth.. I felt obligated. 😉

That's cool. Are these things you are doing on down time while you are carrying a load down to Mexico, or are you taking vacation time off for this?

Lucky you. Nothing like being underwater. Haven't dove in over 20 years. PADI and NAUI advanced certified.

Vacation, I'd be on Twisted truckers if I took a load to Isla Mujeres.

Last year I asked my wife what she wanted for her birthday, she said passport stamps and to go diving again. We used to live on Guam and we hadn't been diving for a long time either. So.. we went to Playa Del Carmen.
