I averaged about 3,200 miles per week for pretty much my entire career, and I've had quite a few weeks that were considerably higher than that back in the days of paper logs. Even so, I almost never drove more than 2 or 3 hours at a time without at least a 5 minute stop to get out and stretch. I found that even a tiny break to walk into a rest area and use the restroom was so refreshing it often felt like I was starting the day over again. It helps keep you alert, it gets the blood circulating, it allows you to stretch your muscles, and it really feels like a game changer.
To this day if I'm on a long road trip I always stop every 2 - 3 hours, normally just for 5-10 minutes. Pushing beyond that just feels like an awful grind that lulls me to sleep and makes my entire body ache.
