How's it going everyone?! I'm thinking about what life would be like as a truck driver, but what if I decide to move on to something else after putting in some years on the road? What jobs out there do y'all typically see people move to from trucking? Maybe a cushy office job with the company?

Believe me when i say office jobs at trucking companies are far from cushy. You could be a DM and spend your days being cussed at by drivers.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Welcome aboard Brian!

Yeah, the only job that trucking leads to is teaching someone to drive a truck. There really isn't a ladder to move up. The trucking ladder really only has one rung.

But there are drivers that move into the offices. But Guyjax is right - the office of a trucking company is one of the most hectic and stressful office environments around. Everything is in constant flux, nobody seems to know what's going on half the time, and of course there's a ton of politics. It's a difficult and stressful environment for the most part.

So if you want to get into trucking, do it because you think driving for a living and life on the road would suit you well. But there really isn't anything to "move up to" after trucking.
