Trucking companies and U.S. manufacturers breathed a collective sign of relief late last week when President Trump backed off from his threat of closing the southern border. But problems still remain for cross-border truckers as they face increasingly longer lines and wait times to get across.

Huge lines and long wait times greet carriers at Mexico border

Hate to make this political - but...

"That's because some 750 Customs and Border Protection officers who usually man the border crossings have been deployed to help the Border Patrol with immigration duties to handle the thousands of migrants appearing at the United States/Mexico border, mostly from Central America."

Businesses that are "breathing a sigh of relief" that DJT has backed away from closing the border - should use that "sigh", to get behind the agenda of strengthening or border and immigration laws/policy - so that resources can be directed BACK TO the legal border crossings (and expediting passage of import/export goods across the border).

While I have sympathy for folks that live in worse situations than us here in the U.S. (and I've visited many S/Central American countries), the fact of the matter is - THEY ALL CAN'T COME HERE EITHER. We can't be expected (or browbeaten on "moral grounds") to solve everyone elses problems, when we can't even solve OUR OWN.

If sufficient pressure and assistance is applied to the MEXICAN GOVERNMENT, to secure IT'S SOUTHERN BORDER, the issue would slow to a trickle (or at least back down to the number where a majority of crossers are mexican nationals).

This isn't about avacados, and unless we put predator drones at the border with shoot to kill orders, the problem is not going to solve itself.
