Will finish CDL Truck Driving School Friday 1/31/2014, and can't find anyone that will take me in Florida or anywhere else cause I have a charge of possession of paraphernalia in Aug 2013, can anyone help me

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

A paraphernalia charge would be incredibly tough to work around as it is viewed as a massive risk to the company. You don't have your location listed, but I am assuming that it is in FL (from what I've read, already a tough place to get hired from). Have you tried any of the smaller mom and pop companies, or maybe an oilfield company?

Yeah Gregory - you're going to have a tough time finding work, that's for sure.

We have an excellent listing of Truck Driving Jobs which includes the ability to Apply For Truck Driving Jobs With One Application. So you can fill out one app and send it to a ton of companies at once.

If that doesn't turn up anything it's time to start scavenging for smaller outfits, owner operators, logging companies, and farmers. Craigslist is a good place to look. A lot of those companies list their jobs there. Check your local newspaper also. Yap, it's 2014 and not many people advertise jobs in newspapers anymore but some still do and they tend to be these type of companies and people. You can also go to a local truck stop and watch for local trucks going in and out. That might give you a chance to speak with some local drivers and dig up some opportunities.

All you can hope for is that someone will give you a shot and you can get some sort of safe driving experience for a few years. Hopefully that will open the door to other opportunities down the road.

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

You may need to research driving in one of the oils fields until you can outlive your little booboo....When you get hung with a "para" charge, everyone assumes you have been doing drugs, you just didn't have any one ya...so companies are gonna be real leary. But you can go to work in the oil fields, get paid, get some experience, and come out on the other end alive and ready to go forward....
