It appears I have been wasting my time according to what I just read; "A driver who commits two of the above violations, arising from two or more incidents, is disqualified for life.".

Well, that's not what I wanted to see this morning. My last DUI was 19 or 20 years ago, but I guess that doesn't matter. Any confirmation of this would be appreciated.

This is based on the company. Some companies are a lot more strict than others. You need to find a company that will take you on. Not all will but you gotta find just that one company. Apply to every company out there.

This will make it more difficult for you. But I don't think that it completely destroys your chances. You better apply to at least 20 different companies or else it's no ones fault but yours. Good luck and stay hopeful!

Thank You! There is a friend of my daughter that has already offered to take me under her wing and put me to work after I get my CDL. I'll ask her how she feels about this. It looks like this is going to limit my options quite a bit though. I feel a little better knowing this isn't a universal law like it sounds in that sentence.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

It will limit your options but honestly your first company isn't as important as you would like to believe. The most important thing is get a year of safe driving in and then your opportunities will expand even with that past.

That's exactly what I did. When I was choosing companies it was between Prime and Central Refrigerated. After debating for a while I decided Central Ref even though Prime pays significantly more. I chose Central because I honestly didn't think I could be with a trainer for a month and then another three months. I'm not a fan of being the student and I honestly didn't think I could do it. That's just me. Centrals training was much quicker and that's what I wanted. Partially because I was young and arrogant and a bit ****y, thought I could easily handle the job and didn't need the three months training.

I did my first year accident free. Easier said than done that's for sure! And I decided to go to Prime after my year because they fit me better with what I need right now.

So honestly, your first company is just one tiny grain of rice in a 50lb rice bag. Get on with someone and prove that you can do the job. Nothing says that better than being accident free. So find a company, any company, and get your career started.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
