I've got to find the determination. My blood pressure is still in the acceptable range but I need to lose weight.

Most people don't accomplish the things they would like to accomplish because they're not inspired by the goal. To say you need to lose weight is not inspiring. Picture your life and what it could be if you were in top physical shape. Imagine the energy, vitality, and pride you would feel. Imagine how much more you could do, and how easily you could do it. Imagine a satisfying life well into your 80's or 90's, doing things most people can't do in their 50's.

If someone offered to pay you $100,000 to get to your ideal weight within three months do you think you could do it? Oh heck yeah! Now that's exciting, right? That's one of the keys to success in life is to have dreams that inspire you.

Marc touched on another one - consistency. If you want to become good at something you should work on getting better at it every day of your life. Tiny steps at first; baby steps. Just do something every day toward that goal. You don't have to be amazing at it, you just have to make an effort.

At first, it will feel unnatural, clumsy, and frustrating but each day it will become easier and more natural. Soon it will be tolerable. Then it will become enjoyable. Then it will be an obsession. It will become one of the many reasons you love your life so much.

Dream big, get inspired and stay focused on all the reasons your life would be so amazing if you would do this. Then do something each day to help make that dream happen until doing it becomes easy and natural and fun. It seems highly unlikely in the beginning that eating healthy or exercising would go from being a chore to being an obsession. But that's exactly what will happen if you have goals that inspire you and then you do something every single day to move toward those goals.
