I knew a guy that worked on CAT scales. He said driving over them from the enter side is okay. Driving through the Do Not Enter side is like trying to adjust your tandems on a scale....which is a big no-no. I forget how often he said they are calibrated.

A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".

Cat probably calibrates their own scales as they are liable for a bad weigh ticket. I know at the elevators in Iowa they are checked twice a year I believe but that is a state inspection for accuracy at point of sale. Cat would not be regulated at their scales that way. They will still be very accurate for trucking purposes.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Okay, here's what I've obtained in the past three days. I stopped at seven of the major truck stops (Love's, Pilot-Flying J, and TA-Petro) in six states (VA, NC, SC, GA, AL, TX).
I talked to a manager or assistant manager at these places. What I was told almost word for word was CAT checks the calibration semiannually. If a specific location reports a problem, such as inaccuracies, CAT will check that scale again ASAP, and recalibrate or repair things as needed.

It amazes me that I've never seen a photo of someone putting a cat on a cat scale and taking a picture.
Also, if you haven't downloaded the cat scale app, do it today. This is so easy and is emailed instantly to you. Don't have to park and run in or even push the button. Highly recommended.

I was sitting in the fuel line at the Binghamton NY Loves waiting to pull up so I could air up my left number one drive tire (got a slow leak) I was sitting in the fuel lane closest to the Cat Scale while I was waiting to move up another driver entered and drove right over the scale like it wasn't there! While I was in line about 4 trucks in a course of a few minutes just went over the scale without slowing down or stopping. It got me thinking that it can't be good for the scale and I wonder how much of the accuracy of the scale is compromised. There is no bypassing the scale and the fuel island if you enter from the road so in stead of driving down the extra 50 feet (if that) to the other entrance these guys just go over the scale. Oh and there are no posted sign prohibiting it either so I guess ignorance is bliss.
