Hi I’m currently in CDL school about halfway through. I was wondering what you guys would do in this situation. Let’s say a light turns red and you have to stop in seventh gear you don’t have time to downshift. So you slow down and you’re almost stopping at the light but then it turns green suddenly but you’re still crawling around 5 to 10 miles an hour.
How do you guys do with an empty truck? Would you see if you’ll be fifth gear to put it back into or would you go lower?
CDL:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
If you're in a ten speed, grab 6th gear. That's your "go to gear" in a situation like that. You can usually get that gear to engage fairly easily at low speeds.
