So I was in my first traffic accident last night, no way to avoid it. Was making a left turn, had to yield to traffic and was at a dead stop. A young woman behind very far behind me was distracted and hit me at 50+mph without braking at all. She claimed that her brakes had stopped working. The officer still wrote her a ticket and I was transported to the hospital. My injuries are not too severe and I just made it home. My question is, how will this affect my career moving forward as a truck driver? Will companies potentially not hire me due to this accident? I may be overthinking this, but I am nervous. RIP to my first truck, i'll miss her.
It's a rear-end. Think you'll be fine. Make sure to get a copy of the police report.
I would call your fleet manager and explain what happened. Let him or her give you guidence for the next steps of reporting it to the safety / compliance department. Especially since you were injured and went to the hospital you may have be checked by your company's doc before you can get back behind the wheel. Make sure you get a copy of the accident report when it's filed just to double check you weren't cited also. When in doubt report it.
