You and your had each get your own hours, but he has to be on duty not driving when you're driving.
My Dad has his cdl A he’s been driving for 31 years and he has his own truck. I just got my cdl permit. My question is can we drive together as a team while I have my permit? And if so do I have my own hours of drive time? He gets 11 and I get 11 or can we only drive on his time?

If he has his own authority, it's just a matter of making sure the insurance will cover anything that may happen while you are behind the wheel. If he is driving for another company as an O/O, I believe that he will have to get clearance from that company for you to be able to drive when hauling their loads. Others will probably be able to provide more information on the particulars of this.
