Ok, well it's official - TruckingTruth's first ever mobile app is now live on Google Play! The Android version is up right now and I'm now working on the iPhone/iPad version which hopefully will be up within a few days on Apple's app store.

The mobile app is simply called "CDL Practice Test" and it includes all of the questions from our High Road Training Program except the logbook and weight & balance sections. The reason I left out those two sections is because they don't pertain to getting your CDL permit or endorsements so I wanted to keep this app focused on being a CDL Test preparation tool. The other two sections are going to get their own mobile apps respectively.

The app works equally well on both Android phones and tablets. It includes 565 multiple choice questions, a snippet from the CDL manual containing the answer to each question, and the answers are scored immediately so you can read through that part of the manual while that question is fresh in your mind. It's the perfect companion to our High Road Training Program because it allows you to get in some much needed repetition without having to set aside special time out of your day to do so. Just fire it up and rifle off a few questions anytime you have a chance - during tv commercials, in line at the grocery store, during your break at work - whenever you have a few moments to spare.

It sells for $2.99 and you can find it here:

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Logbook:

A written or electronic record of a driver's duty status which must be maintained at all times. The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I checked out the screen shots and it looks pretty nice.

Question - will this app interface with my test work already completed via this forum?

No, it doesn't. The reason I have it as a separate app which does not integrate with the High Road Training Program is to allow people to get in some practice questions whenever they'd like.

The scores aren't kept permanently or anything like that. So you can just fire up the app and rifle through a bunch of practice questions whenever you get the chance for some extra practice. Your results will not affect anything you're doing in the High Road Training Program.

I understand, BUT (... don't you hate that?) it would be nice to be able to move from the one to the other and be able to keep up with where I left off, see my score progress, etc?

Still, it looks like a great idea and I'll definitely consider buying it once/if I find a company I feel good about, get accepted, and head off to school.
