Should I Have A Company Run My Background If I Haven't Decided To Work For Them Yet?

I filled out the application on this website that gets sent to several companies and have had 3 calls today. Gordon, SRT, and K&B I talked to Gordon and they sent me an email asking me to sign release forms to allow them to run several checks on me, background, MVR , and so on. My question is do I allow them knowing it cost them money to do all of this if I'm still in the deciding stage and may not even go with them. I haven't even talked to the other companies yet, I was sleeping when they called but plan on making calls tomorrow (sleeping cause I work nights not because I'm lazy).

The recruiter told me that other company's that send you to orientation and find out you are not hirable send you home at your own expense and put report that you lied on your application. Is this true? I understand being sent home at your own expense but is there going to be a record of it? Just curious cause that is what he said is the reason for doing the background checks before going to orientation.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

Chris, I'm not sure if you know but I almost went to Gorden after my year was up. I also have two close friends that worked for Gorden so I know a lot about the company. I've spoken to you on the phone so I know your needs. And Gorden is primarily a West Coast company. I know you said you wanted to do OTR but Gorden only has OTR drivers in their Reefer Team Fleet. Otherwise they only run West Coast, home every weekend. But the pay is only .30CPM. And you're not going to be making any money running only three states making .30CPM. I know you're going to take a huge pay cut to go OTR. But Gordon will be an even more extreme pay cut.

Also, don't worry about them doing a background check right now. Even if you decide not to drive for Gorden them doing a background check won't hurt you. They only do the background check right now to make sure that you're qualified to drive for them.

The recruiter told me that other company's that send you to orientation and find out you are not hirable send you home at your own expense and put report that you lied on your application. Is this true?

Yes and no. Companies do a background check on you if your application qualifies. Once it comes back clean then they call you (usually how it works). They send applicants home because they lied on their application and they were caught. Companies do much more than just a background check. And they have so many ways of finding out if you put anything false on your application. So they're not only being sent home because of a background check. But yes, they do send applicants home if they were being untruthful. As far as them putting that they sent you home on the application, that depends on the severity of the false information.

By the way, its been like a week! Give me a call sometime dude!

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

Thanks Daniel,

I been noticing a bunch of prime trucks on my way back from Boise every week but haven't seen a pink LW yet. Funny how you notice certain trucks after talking with someone who works for them.

Although I think prime is good I don't think the LW is for me, I applied with them but never followed up. I plan on taking my girl on the road with me and want to try living full time on the road for a while.

When you meet up with other drivers you should get a picture of the two trucks together and post the pics here, that would be cool to see.

Check out Lessors INC. they have a Terminal in Caldwell, ID. and the pay is fair. Got questions feel free to hit me up.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Thanks Driver,

I checked out the website, starting pay looks good. 90 days for a rider policy, is this normal? Seems like a long time. Anyway I'm going to be making calls tomorrow on my day off. So many companies to look at, gonna be a busy day.

I think you will find 90 days before you can take a rider pretty standard, at least for new drivers.

There's a handful of companies out there that allow a passenger as soon as you go solo. You just got to find them. Just a tip, a lot of company websites could have that information so it might save you time to just glance at their website first.
