I have a careless driving resulting in death misdemenor from 2011. Someone went into the road while I was making a turn from a stop, had some serious health issues prior to the incident.
Is it even worth trying to pursue a career as a driver?
Ryan;
Hello, and welcome to Trucking Truth!
It'd help us help you, if you'd at least add your state, to the location tab in your profile, thanks!
Sorry to hear about those circumstances; that's a tough one. I'm not even qualified to speculate, but what I certainly WOULD do, is APPLY FOR COMPANY SPONSORED TRAINING for obtaining your CDL , and go from there. Be totally truthful on the app; what you leave out, they will find out.
Also, if it's not feasible, you'll find out easier. It would be awful to drop $5K or more on a CDL at a private paid school, only to not be hired at all.
It HAS been over 10 years ago. It's NOT a felony. You DIDN'T do it with intent. Really, I think it would be evaluated on a 'case' basis, with each company.
I'd go for it. Try. What's to lose? Start here, easily: Apply For Paid CDL Training and vet it out!

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.
The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.
If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.
Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.
