Well folks, after just a month it seems I and Barr Nunn are not a good fit. So I will be taking my last load for them tomorrow & turn in the truck on Tuesday at their Mansfield PA terminal.

After a very rocky start and on going issues I have determined that it is time for me to seek other pastures.

Will keep everyone informed as to what my next move will be as time goes on.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Sorry to hear that. You gave them an honest try and it just did not work out for either side. I am sure you'll find a company you are happy with soon. Good luck.

Ernie I know JB Hunt has alot of dedicated account with customers in Virginia. When I was there alot of my loads picked up in Big Island VA and Richmond and Ruther Glen Va.

Thanks Guy. I have already started the process of going with JB Hunt. Also have a couple of other irons in the fire as well. Never good to have all your eggs in one basket.

Ask about a Georgia Pacific account once you get on there. I was home every 9 days for my restarts and did 3100 to 3300 miles a week. Dave Weaver was my dm. The best in my personal opinion. Rarely a live load. Mostly drop and hook. Only went to about 5 or 6 customers. Though that may seem like it would get boring I could plan my day down to the last minute and never had an issue with parking even if I got to an area at 11am or midnight.

One thing I liked is when you first start driving for JB you go into a "Starter Fleet". What happens is you stay in that fleet for 2 weeks and you get to learn how things are down at JB Hunt. Anytime you have a question you call in. They want you to call. They know companies operations can be different and they want you to be able to learn at a slower pace if you need it or you can just run and not be bothered with calling in but the thing is your not thrown into a truck and expected to know everything right a way.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Had a load that took me to WV yesterday. I took the truck up to the Barr Nunn terminal in Manchester PA. today.

A family friend came up to get me today. Was a very easy process to turn in the truck.

So now I am looking at several possibilities for a new job. Will keep everyone updated as things change.

As of now, I am without a driving job. I am sure that will not last very long. This is the best time of the year to be looking for a driving job because everyone is gearing up for the busy part of the year right now.
