Hey all!

I live in south Louisiana, and I am having a hard time finding a job right now. I am a recent CDL grad looking to go OTR. I would prefer flatbed, but at this point I would accept any driving position. I have applied to TMC, Melton, NCI, CFI, Schneider, SWIFT, Werner, Prime, Western Express, Knight, Covenant, CR England, ATS, TransAm, Boyd Bros, Paschall, Stevens, KLLM, Ozark, PAM, Roehl, and more. Most are either requiring experience or not hiring in my area. A couple are still considering my app. Does anyone know of a company hiring recent CDL grads?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Hello Axe - that's got to be frustrating! I understand completely. That is the same way my initial introduction to trucking went. Nobody would touch me.

How is your past three year work history?

Do you have a criminal record?

What about moving violations, or speeding tickets?

These are all things that can be hindering you. It's great that you have a CDL , but it takes more than that to break into this sometimes.

Is there anything you can share that gives us a little more insight. I'm sure we can help, but there's definitely a problem somewhere that's getting your applications denied. Do you have any ideas what that might be?

I am a new grad employed with Schneider, Toro Dedicated Regional. Where you went to school does have an impacted for Schneider. I would reach out further though. Maybe now have a better chance.

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
