Trucking is something I've wanted to do since I was a child, kind of got stuck in some dead end jobs and recently got let go from my retail job of 5 years and figured now's the time to pursue it. I am looking at going to Prime for my training and going as a company driver. (not interested in lease at all)

I've been watching YouTube videos and studying for my Permit here in PA.

my biggest concern now, if I start with prime in June (I have a scheduled 2 week vacation in may, so that's why the wait) If I let them know I have to be home August 28th to Aug 31st for my Brothers Wedding, Could they make that happen. or would I be better off to just vegetate at home until after then go away to training?

I want to get started as soon as possible because I hate sitting at home collecting on Unemployment.

Look forward to talking with some of you to get a better idea of what i should do.

Here's some links for you to go through and there are the others that will help you.

Don't fixate on Prime. After you've gone through the links use our one and done to send out applications to many companies. It's not that Prime isn't a good company because it is, but in this economy, companies can be choosy with who they bring on. Plus it's slowed down and you just might not make the cut for no discernible reason. It's best to just apply everywhere and see who will make an offer. It doesn't mean you have to take it but it will give you an idea.

CDL:

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
