So I went to one "200 hour" school at a community college through the Workforce WIOA fund and it was kind of a s*** show. We barely practiced skills for 2 of 3 weeks before our teacher quit In the middle of school after he got into an argument with another student and then we got another teacher and he only worked with us for a few hours, a few days, He had us scheduled on a skeleton schedule for only a few hours a day instead of the Monday through Friday 8-5 that we signed up for and then they were like "Okay, we're going to schedule you to take your test" so I failed the air brake test because I forgot to set the brakes at the very end of the test before I started my in-cab. After that, when I needed to retake the test, (since we got 2 more reattempts) my school ghosted me and the rest of our classmates, whom had all failed also, for a few months and I wasn't able to retake the test. My Workforce counselor tried to request a refund so that I could have tuition paid for at another school. They wouldn't give the refund but we ended up getting lucky and finding a school through a public college that was giving out free classes to a 300 hour program. So I'm on the second to last week of school and I'm doing a lot better and I'm about to take the test next week and I applied with Prime Inc again and they said that they couldn't hire me because I have "a failed attempt at the DPS" and to come back to them when I have "6 months of CDL work under my belt" which is crazy because the reason I want to work for them is because I want to go through their long *rigorous* training program! Ugh 😩 I'll be trained by then and I won't want to work for them anymore. I'm not sure if the recruiter misunderstood me and thought that I failed all of my attempts and I've talked to other people that work for prime and said that they didn't pass on the first try either.

And I've also looked online and some studies say between 50% to 80% of people don't pass all four parts on the first try.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

WIOA:

WIOA - Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (aka WIA)

Formerly known as the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), the WIOA was established in 1998 to prepare youth, adults and dislocated workers for entry and reentry into the workforce. WIOA training funds are designed to serve laid-off individuals, older youth and adults who are in need of training to enter or reenter the labor market. A lot of truck drivers get funding for their CDL training through WIOA.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Hi. I have been with Prime a along time. Apply once you get your CDL. They do not hire people who attmepted schooling elsewhere and quit the program.

You have a better chance at being hired once you have the CDL.
