Hello ladies I am going for my CDL this summer and wanted to know first is it legal to carry fire arm in ur truck and does anyone do it? I am short and not the fighting type. I have been attacked before in my life so I just want to protect myself while on the road.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Hi Eden,

I've been pondering this question too. I recently watched Big Rig on Netflix and one of the ladies on there said tasers were legal. I plan on team driving so I'm not as concerned. We have talked about trying to staying together at each stop, but I know that's not always feasible. I'll be interested in seeing other's responses. Good luck!

Federal law restricts the possession of a fire arm in a commercial vehicle. You can carry a tazer, or tire knocker, or long staff. I've seen folks whoop some ass with a long staff..and its not your size that matters. If you are interested in it, check into the folks who do the renaissance fairs and such. I personally like the bee spray that shoots 20 feet....works well, and you don't have to be up front an personal to use it. I have had police training...and the first thing they tell women is to keep as much distance as you can...never let them in close. If they get in close, go for the "tender pieces"..nuts, eyes, lips,...just keep digging....But distance will be your best option. Seriously...If you are aware of your surroundings, and CARRY YOURSELF like you have a black belt ...the bad guys won't pick on ya, cuz thats how they pick their victims..they want the ones all bunched up in their coat, not looking around, staring at the ground, and not caring where they are walking. NEVER go around the back of trailers at night. Never go between trucks/trailers at night. Try to park where there is light. And for the ladies, I tell them to invest in a porta potty...It was the best thing I ever had in the truck.....
