In Indiana they don't treat it as three separate tests. It's one test with 3 parts. Even if you fail the road test, after passing pre-trip and backing, you still have to do it all over again if you retest. So, yes, in Indiana you have to do the whole shebang.
Thank you Rookietrucker, guess I have to make sure I get my cdl here in Jersey before I relocate to Indy. Hope that I will not have to sit for another test to get an Indy license.

Just did the NJ CDL -- being the odd state we are... If you pass the pre-trip (air brake test) and fail the yard, you can come back in 2 weeks and only do yard and road -- if you pass pre-trip and yard, and fail road - you just have to do road in 2 weeks... go garden state! Not an expert by any means but doubt another state would accept it - assume you would need a new permit from your new state.
