Hey Max, there's not a driver here who hasn't been humbled at some point along the way by the transmission in a big rig. Just hang in there, and one day you'll be changing those gears like they're packed in butter.

hahaha ya i bet! Thanks to this site and previous experience i already had respect for truck drivers and what they go through every day. People treating them poorly, and many people and organizations putting them in the "unskilled labor" category. Just sit behind that wheel and you will quickly change that opinion. Anyways i feel like i did pretty good for my first day. Just got to stay humbled and aim to get better every day then before i know it ill be starting this new chapter of my life!
Hey Max, congrats on getting started . . . is that Alaska in the background of your photo? Looks really cool (no pun intended) . . .

Well today was my first go at driving behind the wheel. My school is super nice just south is a bunch of farm land with roads without a lot of traffic. Anyways i was doing really well with shifting going up and down between the gears and feeling pretty good about myself. Well as you all know thats when it starts to bite you in the but. After awhile i began missing gears and started struggling. After i was humbled i got the hang of it. So day one of driving is in the books! Still need to iron out the edges with double clutching. lucky for me coming from driving a 50 foot bus im used to the feel of a big vehicle. Anyways i look forward to just getting better every single day.
Double Clutch:
To engage and then disengage the clutch twice for every gear change.
When double clutching you will push in the clutch, take the gearshift out of gear, release the clutch, press the clutch in again, shift the gearshift into the next gear, then release the clutch.
This is done on standard transmissions which do not have synchronizers in them, like those found in almost all Class A trucks.
