just curious how much can a team make on average ?

$2,000 Sign-On Bonus Up to $.48/Mile — Split ($.42/Mile Base)

[The truck earns $0.42 up to $0.48 per mile. This amount is divided by two which is the amount each driver gets. You count the miles the truck is making which means. You get paid for the miles that your partner is driving, too.]

============================================= Let's compare Solo and Team excluding the bonus pays:

1. Team: Your truck makes 5000 miles in 1 week. With a payment of $0.42 base pay your truck earns $2100 before taxes. You then split the amount by half. Therefore, each driver earns $1050 before taxes. If you complete 17000+ in a month you receive $0.06 per mile for the truck which means each driver gets $0.03 per mile bonus pay. That means that $0.42 per mile becomes $0.45 per mile.

2. If you payment is $0.48 your truck will earn $2400 in the week and each driver will earn $1200 in the week before taxes. If you complete 17000 or more in a month each driver gets $0.03 per mile bonus. The per mile rate would be $0.51 for the truck split by half for each driver. Every time you complete 240000 miles, you receive $0.01 per mile increase. This takes about 1 year. This means that each year your increase will be 1 cent per mile.

Solo with 6 to 35 months experience: Your truck makes 2500 miles in 1 week with a payment of $0.33 Consequently, the driver earns $850 per week. I chose 5000 miles for team and 2500, because in a team each driver drives about 2500 miles which is half of 5000 miles. You can see according to this information you see what you may earn.

If the solo driver want to earn $1050 per week, he needs to run about 3182/3 miles per week. If the solo driver want to earn $1200 per week, he needs to run about 3636/7 miles per week.

These are examples using the rates mentioned in the list. A solo driver who is driving for Celadon already five years will have more earning than a team driver in his first year.

However, you might now have a clue how solo and teams earn without including the bonus pays and with including the bonus pays. There are more bonus pays which I did not include such as Hazmat bonus etc. If the solo truck hauls hazmat, but the team truck does not haul hazmat then the solo truck is in advantage and earns more money in a month. I hope you and your partner have your Hazmat endorsement!

Michele, a rookie team will probably earn around seventy thousand together during their first year, or maybe a little more. It will take you about a year to get comfortable with everything. Once you guys have got your feet good and wet, your earning potential should work it's way up to around to 100,000 dollars by your third year out there. If you do really well you might get there a little quicker. Teams tend to burn out, it can be a tough life, constantly on the move, always stuck in a confined space together yet not having much quality time together due to the fact that you are always on the go and your spouse is sleeping while you are driving and vice versa. Teaming is a great way to make some really great money in trucking, but like I said it can be a tough gig to make last a long time.
