How Many Miles Do Team Drive?

Have you ever had below 4000 miles in a week?

I am especially directing this question to Celadon drivers who are doing the commitment after school.

Drake, there are a lot of ups and downs with freight and of course breakdowns can be a real headache. You'll almost certainly at some point spend several days in a motel waiting on repairs and you won't get 4,000 miles that week. But if a team truck under normal conditions isn't getting 4,000 miles in a week then something is seriously wrong somewhere. The company itself could never survive with numbers like that.

What I always did was focus on monthly totals because weekly totals can be rather volatile. A slow week isn't the end of the world if you have three others to make it up.

As a team driver at pretty much any company you should expect at least 5,000 miles per week on average. Anything less than that consistently would mean making some phone calls to dispatch and operations to find out why you're not getting your share of miles. It could be a lousy dispatcher , it could be something to do with operations...it's hard to say.

You can also ask Celadon what the average weekly mileage is for their fleet. They'll know that number. It's a very common question they get asked by prospective drivers.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

I know that solo drivers average 2500 miles. I assume that teams drive 2500 each.

Yeah that's a pretty safe assumption. 5,000-6,000 miles per week for teams is solid. If you were averaging less than 5,000 miles per week as a team you should be making phone calls to find out what the problem is.
