Yea some days it seems like you forgot things, but in reality you brain keeps working the problem as you sleep, so one day it all just clicks into place.

Have fun with it. In Texas, straight line backing was the only backing for the test. If you start out straight, it isn't to hard. If the truck and trailer aren't straight or pointed in the wrong direction, fix it fast and then it isn't too hard. (Not trying to belittle your accomplishment.)
In Texas, the pre-trip test is written. Since there is only one pre-trip test, there where school bus questions thrown in to the test. My advice would be to practice doing the pre-trip every morning you can. Knowing where everything is and what you are checking is half of it. The other half is communicating to the tester.

Hi all, I wish I could do a training diary but there is too little time and the wi-fi connection the hotel has is too slow for me to be on the computer too long. Shifting is much easier in the truck than in the simulator, although I still have a way to go. I need to be faster in my shifting as the training area is covered in sand and it will slow the truck down very quickly.
We did a straight line back today at the end of the day and I managed to back the tractor and trailer back without going too far off track and not hitting any cones, so I was pleased with that. Hopefully we will go on the road tomorrow. The fellow who did not show up on Monday came on Tuesday and his drug test won't be back until tomorrow. There are only 2 students in the truck I'm in so we get a lot of behind the wheel time. The pre-trip instructions they gave us to study to pass the Wisconsin CDL test is something like 15 pages long....needless to say a lot too learn.
I get better each day, but it seems like each morning my brain forgot what I could do yesterday and needs to wake up and remember. We are to be at the truck at 6:45 am each morning to begin our pretrip but I get there at 6:30. Dan (the instructor) told us that we are in a 3 week job interview up front, although I already knew that from coming here! My driving partner does not have a car here and I told him I would be glad to give him a ride but I will be getting to the range early because arriving on time would be showing up late. Since he needs a ride he seems to be ok with it, and I suppose if ever he isn't he will ask one of the other guys to give him a lift.
Tim F. who is also a TT memeber is in my class and in the other truck, but it is nice to see someone else from here! I would encourage anyone who is considering a company sponsored school to check out Roehl Transport. Things are fast paced and they may not cover quite as much of the expense as some other schools (you are on your own for transportation and meals), but they are incredibly professional and all of the instructors I have come in to contact with thus far have been great and extremely knowledgeable. On top of all that, the class sizes are small which is a definite plus. I will touch base again when I have time!
Oh and by the way, it FINALLY stopped raining!!!!!!!!
