Jason, I can't speak to the specifics of the physicals at Swift and Werner, but I can tell you that you will be required to get a new physical when you start with any company. This is something that is required. We do have drivers in here from both of those companies though, so maybe some of them will be able to give you some specifics.
Werner's physical is a piece of cake, at least at the Indianapolis terminal. You have to squat and stand back up. Do a vision, hearing, and blood pressure test. Urinanalysis. They will make sure you have control of your limbs by asking you to pull and push with your arms and legs. If your wrist is visibly swollen they might ask you about it, but otherwise it shouldn't be a problem.
At CR England it was a much more involved physical, strength test, etc., but at Werner there was none of that.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
I will be taking a physical at Werner on Wednesday......if it's anything other than what ButtonUp stated, I'll try to let you know. But the one I took already at my school was a piece of cake, no lifting, just BP, whiz quiz, height, weight, & eye check....hearing he asked...can you hear me now? And that was it!

Hey Folks, I'm back with another question about physicals. I've got my pre-hires that I'd like to go with (swift & werner) but again, as always, I'm worried about the physical. Because of my Crohn's disease I have this weird side effect with my wrist that causes it to swell. I can still drive and everything with it just fine, I'm just worried that if they ask me to lift some weights, or rotate my wrists around, that I won't be able to pull it off with this hand. I got past my DOT Physical just fine, but they didn't make me bend or lift anything with this hand.
All that said, does anyone have any insight on the physical portion for Swift or Werner? I've pretty much eliminated Knight because of this reason, but heard that you just breeze through these two. Any accuracy or information on this? Also, am I required to re-take the DOT Physical if I already had it done in October? Thanks much!
-Jason E.
DOT:
Department Of Transportation
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Pre-hire:
What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
