It will actually say on the side of the tire what type of construction it is. To be honest, I'm not sure how many bias ply tires are out there anymore except for special circumstances. Radials are by far the most common tire you'll find out there.
Oh, and yes - you can use radials on one axle and bias ply on another. But I don't think you'll ever come across that except for highly specialized circumstances.

I am learning to be a trucker. I know when I do pre-trip that radials and bias ply tires aren't supposed to be used on the same axle but what about on different axles? And how do I tell which is which? Thanks.
