Congrats Steve! And that was a great rundown! Excellent information and very interesting.

but $47k first year is what you can expect

That's my only concern. I'd say less than 5% of new drivers make that much their first year. $37,000 I would say is more likely. We usually tell people to expect between $32k-$36k their first year.

But Schneider is an awesome company. They have so many different opportunities with different home time options and types of freight. Pretty much anything you can think of to do in trucking Schneider is doing it. And it's usually pretty easy to switch from one division to another once you've put in a little time and proven yourself so the opportunities will be there.

I thought all of Brett's "attitude is everything" comments were so cliché

They are cliche, but they're also 100% true. And I've never found any occupation where a great attitude will have such an impact on everyday things. If you think it was important in school, wait until you get out on the road and realize a rather large percentage of drivers out there have a terrible attitude, especially when things don't go their way. If you'll be kind to people everywhere you go you'll get favors thrown at you all the time from dispatch, DOT officers, dock workers, and all the people you'll come across out there. So many drivers have poor people skills that the ones who know how to interact well with people have a huge advantage. You'll stand out like a strawberry in the desert! I think it's one of those "best kept secret" type of things that you wouldn't believe until you experience it.

Keep us posted!

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
