So I leave Sunday afternoon for training at Roehl. Does anybody have any directions to navigate around all the Chicago traffic?

Where are you coming from? The only way around Chicago is the long way.

You have a couple of options for directions. If you want to avoid Chicago all together 80W to 39N straight to Marshfield. If you want to avoid the center of the city 80W to 294N to 290W to 39N or 294N to 94N to.894 around Milwaukee to 41N to 10W. Honestly there are soooooo many ways I could take you its not even funny but then you might get lost.

Mike, when I went to school in Marshfield last October I took the 80W to 294N to 290W to 39 N and was coming from Cincinnati. I spend most of my driving time in Chicagoland (not downtown though) so I don't think much about it now even though I really hate Chicago drivers and the traffic! Good luck in school!

Hey Mike:

This is just an observation. I was born and raised in the Chicago area but have been long gone from there since 1988.

I visit there and northern Indiana frequently. Two things: First, you mention that you'll be traveling on Sunday afternoon. Drive through town and enjoy! It's Sunday, my friend. While there are no guarantees in that fine city, I doubt that you'll encounter anything too significant.

Even if you were traveling during the morning rush on Monday, if this is intimidating in your 4 wheeler, what will you do when you get into a truck? Unless you get extremely lucky, you will almost certainly find yourself navigating through much worse traffic than in Chicago. Despite what you hear, Chicago traffic is very navigable for a responsible driver in any sized vehicle.

I wish you the best at Roehl. They are in fact on my short list of companies for when I finish private CDL school.

Joe

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I don't really have a problem with the traffic shoot I've driven through Dallas at rush hour lol. My biggest concern is just getting up there as quickly as possible because we've got some snow coming this way and if they're right(almost never lol) we should get about a foot of snow.
