So day 9 Swift. Pre-trip Eval. Before my eval. we were told to start pre trip on a brand new truck different parts. Next had to wait till after break to do mine, everyone else was finished. They started driving the new truck, offset, parallel parking and shifting (up and down). I felt pretty pressured to hurry so I was not left behind. Almost blew my inspection! Got to watch those nerves! So it was a very busy full full day. Look forward to some calf cramps tonight lol. Going to bed asap. Be safe. I would put a smiley but....I am pretty nerve wracked.
Almost killed the truck during the last service break test!!! Phew! would have been automatic failure! Passed, only missed 3. Trainer extremely patient, I definitely appreciated it. Thank You Debbie!

The difference between different models of trucks can seem like the difference between the sun and moon when you're in this first stage of trying to learn everything. I learned to drive on a 2012 Cascadia and did my CDL pretrip and driving test on it. Then I did the remainder of my company required training on a brand new 660 with a pneumatic clutch. Everything under the hood was slightly re-arranged from where I knew it, and just shifting it in general was very different. Moving from one truck to another will throw you off.
Just the other day I was coming into the terminal to get off of my trainer's truck and get into my own, and on the way in they asked me to recover and abandoned truck for them. I did. It was a brand new Pete with 80k miles on it (looked like a WW2 disaster zone in the interior (need a tentanus shot)). I grinded that thing up and down. I was hitting 1700 RPMs when I was shifting up in the low gears because it was so much different than the Kenworth I had been driving for the past 2 months.
Point is, different trucks are different trucks. Apply your knowledge and keep cool. You passed your CDL exam though? Congrats!
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
