Talked to my mentor today he runs a dedicated route for Winco mainly from Phoenix to California and sometimes Las Vegas supposed to meet up with him tomorrow to get the truck.

Dedicated Route:

A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."

Jumped in the truck last night about 1930 had to be in Victorville at winco by 2200 drop and hook.

picked up and empty trailer pulled it about 6 miled to church and dwight. drop and hook. load of arm and hammer goods. headed to phoenix target dc.

sleeper...

in a lil bit well be headed out. my first 30 minutes is going to be 76000 gross hheaded down the cajon pass lol.

14 cascadia truck 141183

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

double-quotes-start.pngDAY 3

Go to DMV and test. the DMV will give you two tries to pass in the same day, if you dont pass then you drive to the other DMV and test again, if you dont pass you pay again and you have 3 more chances. some people went home because they didnt pass, I really hope they come back because they are good people.

When you took your test for your permit did you also take any endorsement tests with it? If you did which ones did you take?

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

when I tested for my permit the school said do not test for any endorsements because it will put your license on hold, I doubt that very seriously. I did not because they said that just because I didn't want to go against their policies, a couple days ago I tested for tanker and doubles/ triples so I now have those. I have not done my hazmat because it cost extra money and it takes some time to get I would like to wait for my hardcopy before I try to get my hazmat. if you pay the original $71 at the day you take your permit test you will not have to pay anything extra for your endorsements

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

Dont know what number day it is since first day of school. its day 11 of driving though... day 1 O Hours driving, day2 6.75, day 3 6.25, day 4 4.25, day 5 6.25, day 6 5, day 7 8, day 8 2.75, day 9 O, day 1O O, Day 11 7, Day 12 O. the low hours per day are mainly because our runs are under 4OO miles. the O days... mentor home time. luckily i got to see my family too. technically im susupposed to have 72 hours by the end of today... i have about 45or46. i do have 8 backs though because i vet one for almost everyday. our runs will be longer soon. because after 50 hours we run as team and we will get longer hauls. so hoefully by day 34 ill still have my 2OO. really i need 15O hours in the next 21 days. roughly 7.25 hours a day. but thats 3 weeks. so say 5 more days off ... i need 15O hours in 15/16 days. roughly 1O hours driving for each day i drive. if they give us longer runs and no layovers. i might get it. if not. ill likelu hit my 2OO on about day 4O-42

... then from Bakersfield back to Phoenix

Now you're doing all the easy stuff! What a nice drive you had. Into Bako, did you go over Tejon? I've been over Tehachapi (on your Bako to Phoenix leg) on my bike a few times.
